Meaghan and Todd's Wedding

Last Saturday we went down to Austin for Meaghan and Todd's wedding. (Well it was actually in a little town called Luling which is about 30 east of San Marcos.) It was a sweet little place right on the river, it was an old mill where they had built a pavilion with a giant flag stone porch and patio. It was a really neat venue, just beautiful! My aunt Cindy made the wedding cake and Scott and I were tasked with taking it down to the wedding. It was VERY stressful driving 4 hours with a wedding cake. I felt like I had a bomb riding in the back seat! It was boxed up and I had to stack it, pipe on the icing between each layer and then put on the butterflies that Meaghan had bought. I was pretty much freaking out when we got there and I had to do it. It was like all at once it hit me that I was responsible for the cake...SOMEONE'S WEDDING CAKE. Super scary! But I think it turned out just like she wanted it. (at least I hope so!) I also (of course) snapped tons of pictures because the place was awesome, the kiddos were scrumptious and the bride and groom were as close to perfect as you could get - just a beautiful wedding all the way around. I just love Meaghan, she has been Becca's best friend for forever and she is a wonderful person - so sweet and so much fun! She and Todd are made for each other and you can just feel the love when you are around them. We had a great time and the day couldn't have been better!

Hudson and the Rolly Polly

No real reason for this post. Hudson was just playing in the backyard on Sunday and found a little rolly polly and seriously played with it for about 45 minutes. (dancing, singing and swinging with it!) He has had many rolly polly friends and loves them all so dearly! He even put one to bed in the garage at nap time one day and when he woke up from his own nap wanted to go see if his buddy was up from his nap too! It was so cute. Look at his crazy hair! I love little boys - especially this one!

Party on the Patio!

Last weekend was a great weekend but super busy! I LOVE this weather and I want to soak up every minute of it before it’s a million degrees and we are trapped inside unless we are swimming! The weatherman of course predicted rain for Friday and Saturday but luckily he was wrong! The weather perfect all weekend and I spent most of it on a patio with friends.
Since it was so nice out we decided to take the boys to Joe T’s for dinner on Friday. Mike & Nicole and David & Christi and all the kiddos went with us. Sometimes it can get hairy with everyone and all the kids but Friday was great. I am really excited to be out of the “baby stage” at our house. It’s like I am finally seeing a light at the end of the tunnel. Both the boys are able to socialize on their own, feed themselves once I get their plates set up and just behave in general most of the time. Two years old was pretty rough for us with Hudson and I feel like we are past a little of it. Nolan was good at two years old and really hard at three years for us. I am hoping that it is the opposite with Hud! I think he has just finally tested enough of his boundaries to be calm for a while.  We took the kids on a fountain tour after dinner and it was sweet to watch them all make their wishes and throw their pennies into the fountain. Of course, Hudson wanted to dunk into the water and get them back out and Addyson didn’t throw hers in at all. She saved them in her pocket and put them in her piggy bank when she got home. Ha ha!
Saturday morning I had the Komen 5K and then at 4 I had linner (yes that would be lunch and dinner) plans for Amy and Kelli’s birthday and then late girls night plans with Becca cause Conner was out of town. That was three events that had nothing to do with kids or hubbys which is really, really odd for me! I can’t think of the last time I had a day like that on the agenda! Scott decided to take the boys the zoo since he knew I would be gone most of the day. He invited MiMi to join them and they had a great time! I got up super early and went to downtown Ft. Worth to meet up with my “work girls” for the 5K which we followed up with brunch on the patio at Esperanza’s – so YUMMY! Then I went home and cleaned my house from top to bottom. (Which was actually really nice to be home alone – that NEVER happens!) I then was able to have a second to just enjoy a quiet, clean house! I got ready and picked up Kimmie and we headed out to Primo’s in Dallas. I had not been there before but I had heard lots of good stuff about it on the radio. We met up with all my “high school girls” and had a great time. Just relaxed on the patio and a had a few margaritas, talked and laughed. It’s always good to be with my girls and catch up on things – funny how now we talk about husbands, jobs, church and kids. I love this stage in our friendship! We left there about 7 and I took Kimmie home and went to Becca’s. Krista, Nicole and Christi went with us to El Arroyo for drinks and late dinner. Again we sat out on the patio and again I ate MORE Mexican food and drank a few MORE margaritas. Like I said it was a patio weekend for sure!

Komen 5K

I have participated in the Komen 5K multiple times and even did the 60 mile 3-day walk the year before we had Nolan. For some reason the scary statistics of breast cancer have always been a big concern of mine. Maybe because my great aunt Jeanine had it and is more than a 10 year survivor, maybe because I have two sisters and knew that the chances of one of us battling this disease were at 65%, or maybe because I have such a large group of amazing girlfriends. Whatever the reason, I feel like I have a calling to be a part of the cure. I have had it for a very long time - long before my Mom was diagnosed. Anytime I see an article on the subject or hear a blip on the news, I stop and read or watch it. It is just mind boggling how many women are affected by breast cancer every hour! My mom was diagnosed 6 ½ years ago while I was pregnant with Nolan. She went through a lumpectomy and 5 years of Tamoxifen but really had the best case scenario as it was detected as early as possible and was treated without the need for chemo or radiation. We felt VERY blessed that my mom went in and had her very first mammogram and it was perfect timing. So many other women have not been so fortunate. All the time I hear stories of women who are diagnosed in their 20’s or 30’s – yet our insurance still will not cover mammograms for younger women unless there is a predetermining factor. I also know there are SO many women who do not have health insurance so a mammogram is just not something that they can afford much less treat should a problem arise. This is a tragedy and have no idea what the solution is for these issues but I know that the Susan G. Komen foundation does. They are working around the clock to fix these problems along with actually funding much of the research to find a cure. I tear up just thinking about all the amazing things this organization does and all in the name of a woman who lost her life to breast cancer. Last week, my mom was once again diagnosed with “suspicious” spots on her mammogram. She will have a biopsy in the next few weeks and we are praying for only good news! It was timely that the Komen 5K was on Saturday. Being at the event in the arms of friends was such a wonderful experience. There were so many people wearing shirts in honor of brave women who are battling this terrible disease and for many more who lost their battle. Seeing the thousands of people running and walking for something that has impacted all of us was inspirational. It truly filled me with hope and love for my mom and for all the other women out there who have or will have breast cancer. We will find a cure!
